Report an incident / accident
If you experience an incident
or accident related to cyclists on Cornwall's roads, by-ways or bridleways,
it would be helpful if you can provide us with a report. We will collect
data in the hope to build a database of Cornwall's cycling accident hot-spots.
We are interested in information about
-
Bike theft or vandalism
-
Close encounters / near misses
-
Incidents of any kind (including
dog bites, angry farmers, incidents due to poor signage, crashes due to
poor track maintenance etc.)
-
Accidents that you witnessed
or were involved in
Although we can't do anything
for victims of incidents or accidents, except to wish you good luck and
speedy recovery, your report may help to save others from similar fates.
However, your report will be put to the authorities in order to bring about
better overall conditions for cyclists in Cornwall.
If you are involved in an
accident, it is important to collect as much information as possible on
the site for a future claim. Photographs (with a suitable scale) showing
the dimensions of potholes, obstructions, etc. are important evidence.
Sketches of the accident site can greatly help visualising the problem
encountered. Ensure to collect names and adresses of witnesses, note down
number plates and insurance details for vehicles involved, and try to make
a comprehensive and objective report as soon after the accident as possible.
Unfortunately compensation claims are often unsuccessful, as it is up to
the claimant to document that a certain problem (such as a pothole) developed
due to negligence on behalf of the land owner or authorities.
